Wednesday Wanderers – Wednesday, 13th November 2019
This Wednesday we are going to Renfrew. A very nice reasonably flat 6 mile walk along the Clyde and through several of Renfrew’s parks. Along good paths and pavements therefore gaiters and poles should not be necessary unless torrential rain is forecast.
Sad News – Update
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Alastair McFarlane who died in the QEUH after a very short illness. Alastair has been a very active member of the Group since 2005 and will be sorely missed. The funeral arrangements have now been finalised:

Please take a look at our enhanced Bearsden and Milngavie micro site on the Ramblers website. You can access it here. This is part of our attempt to move with the times, reach a larger audience and hopefully attract new members. The walks are linked in to the new Ramblers app which you might like to try.
This is an additional presence on the internet and is not intended to replace our own original website which will continue to bring you the full Walking and Social programme and Breaking News.
Fiona, Moira and Sue
We are trying out different methods of taking the walk register using the Ramblers app. One of these involves scanning your Ramblers membership card so we would appreciate it if you could remember to bring it with you on walks.
Milngavie in Bloom
The next date for helping Milngavie in Bloom manage the garden at the start of the West Highland Way is 7th November.
New members always welcome. We meet to start work at 10 O’Clock near the beginning of the WHW at the footpath junction before the road bridge which leads to the library. Bring your own tools or borrow those provided.
Scottish Water Pipe Works
Mugdock Road will be reopening from Monday 23rd September. At times one side of the road will be closed and traffic lights will be in place. Drumclog carpark will remain closed until the new pipeline is in place. Walkers are advised that while the works are ongoing, it would probably be safer to walk on the path within the waterworks rather than the one immediately beside the road.
Walking holiday abroad in 2020
A one-week trip to the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands in late October to mid November of 2020 is being considered. Travel would be by a direct flight from Glasgow to Tenerife and then by a ferry across to La Palma. The trip is conditional on a sufficient number of potential participants and on finding organisers who would look after the walking programme. Expressions of interest and indications of willingness to coordinate and/or lead walks are to be sent to Peter Bartos (email@example.com). These are entirely non-binding and do not convey any advantage in case of the trip going ahead.
