Walking holiday in Algarve: 4th – 11th September 2018
Our destination in 2018 is Burgau, a small coastal town in western Algarve (southern coast of Portugal) approx. 15km west of Lagos, at the edge of the Costa Vincentina National Park. The group of 36 will be staying in Hotel Praia de Burgau, a small hotel on a cliff above a beach at the edge of the town. All the rooms have private facilities and the meal plan is half-board. A programme of walks ranging from C to B grade will be offered and local transport will be arranged. Again, the walks will be led by members of the group. The holiday is coordinated with direct flights between Glasgow and Faro, paid individually.
The trip is fully booked and there is a waiting list. Places not confirmed by the payment of a hotel deposit by mid-January 2018 may become available. Anyone interested should contact Peter or Helena Bartos on 0141 9561706 or p.bartos@ntlworld for any further information.
Wednesday Morning Walk & Christmas Lunch – Wednesday 6 December 2017
We will meet as usual at Milngavie Leisure Centre at 10am. There will be a short walk followed by lunch at Cyan at approx 12.30 for 1pm. The cost is £15.50 incl gratuity for 2 courses, mince pie and tea/coffee. Karine Davison (0141 576 1099) has collected money from most people on Walking Wednesdays. To anyone who hasn’t yet paid, please phone Karine for her address, and send a cheque as soon as possible. If you are no longer coming, please let Karine know. This will be our last walk of 2017. Walks resume on Wednesday 17 January 2018.
Wednesday Wanderers – Wednesday, 29th November 2017
Next Wednesday we are going to walk round the Lower Craggs at Dumbarton. Although there are several inclines there is only one place which I would describe as a hill but steps have been built so instead of a hill climb you have a nice gentle stair climb. Great views over the Clyde etc. Poles recommended. Mainly on good paths. Slightly shorter walk of 5.1/2 miles.
Garscube Estate to the Canal and Maryhill Park walk – Sunday 26 Nov 2017
Remember we are meeting later than usual at MSCP at 10 am. Walk starts from Garscube sports complex building and car park on the Kelvin Campus. If going straight there be there around 10.20. Coffee stop there where we will have a room with tea, coffee and biscuits for £2 per person. This will be provided for everyone. For bacon butties fans these will be available and delivered for us at a cost of £1.60 each so please try to have change for paying. I need to let them have numbers as we set off from MSCP so if going direct to Garscube please let me know before if you want a bacon roll.
Aberfoyle to Callander linear walk – Saturday 25 November
We have come up with a better transport plan as follows. The taxi service will be used to take only the drivers back to Aberfoyle. They will then drive up to Callander to pick up the rest of the group. This will be a lot quicker than multiple runs by the taxi operator; however it means an additional £1.50 approx in petrol money. We will need 7 drivers to take 26 of us which is perfect given that the taxis are 7 seaters. I have booked only one so we must use full carloads. Since we don’t know who the drivers will be till the day, can I ask that everyone brings their bus passes, as the operator needs to see them. If there are any questions, please get in touch with Fiona.
An Open Meeting on 23/01/18
An open meeting will be held in the Fraser Centre on Tuesday 23rd January 2018 to discuss walk gradings and walk etiquette. The committee are keen that as many as possible of our members attend to ensure a good cross section of views can be heard. This will then enable us to take any necessary actions forward to make sure that our walks will be enjoyed by everyone. Please do come along and support your Committee and Walk Leaders. If you are unable to attend the meeting and wish to raise a comment please advise one of the Committee members.

Urgent appeal for walk leaders
Please, please, please come forward with walks for the next programme from January to April 2018. There are very few dates filled so far, especially from C walk leaders. Dave Clark needs to have the full list, and all the walk details by mid November, which is only a month away. At the moment it looks like we will have an almost blank programme. Don’t just think that ‘someone else can lead a walk’. If everyone led just one walk, we’d have a full programme. Please think about it, even if you have not led before – just take a group on your favourite walk. It’s the winter so they do not need to be long walks.
New Year walk and Lunch on 02/01/17
Bookings are now being taken for the New Year Walk and Lunch on the 2nd January. We will walk from Mugdock
Visitor Centre to Blanefield for lunch at Kirkhouse Inn. Lunch needs to be pre-ordered and costs £11.50 for one course, £14.95 for two. Gratuities to be paid on the day. You have the choice to walk back to Mugdock or arrange
your own transport back. Anyone not wishing to walk can still join us for lunch at 1 pm. Booking closes on 19th December.
A Social Event Booking form to be sent to Moira Allan, together with a cheque for £11.50 or £14.95, adding your choice of meal on the booking form.
