Wednesday Wanderers – Wednesday, 14th November 2018
This Wednesday we are going to Merkland Nature Reserve at the far side of Kirkintilloch. After leaving the Nature Reserve we walk along the Luggie Water, into the park and along the canal eventually returning to the Nature Reserve. At one point we have to cross the Luggie Water over very large flat stepping stones supported by a rope the full length of the burn. There are a couple of small inclines but mainly on good tracks and paths throughout. If rain persists gaiters and poles recommended. A very nice scenic walk.
Sunday 11 November B+ walk Ben Bhreac and Ben Uird
This Sunday’s walk has been greatly changed, as the original walk is too long for the short daylight hours. It has therefore been decided to do a lollipop route from Cashel Visitor Centre taking in Binnein nan Gobhar, Beinn Bhreac and Stob a Choin Duibh, before heading back to the forest trails near the view point. It will be approx 11km (7 miles) and 536m ascent. Once out of the woodland, the going is hard as it crosses pathless heathery tussocks, which, with the recent rain, are likely to be very wet in between. There are also peat hags to cross between the tops. The return, although still likely to be wet underfoot, is easier from the final summit. On a good day there are excellent views to make it worth the effort. Please note that there is a £2.50 honesty box to park at Cashel. But please check Breaking News on Saturday because if the weather is forecast to be poor, we may propose an alternative walk.
