Current Social Programme

One of the features of the Group, much appreciated by members, is the extensive social programme. This runs throughout the year with a different balance of activities during Winter and Summer.

The programme for the period from September 2010 to January 2011 has a number of events.

Tuesday September 21 - Pub and Curry Night 3

It’s been a while since the last one but the ever-popular Pub and Curry Night is back!

We start at the “Bon Accord” between 7 and 7.30pm before moving on to the “Madras Palace” for a buffet at 8pm.

Pay for your own drinks and buffet on the night.
The buffet cost is £9.95.


Friday October 1 - "Sunshine on Leith" - Kings Theatre

Date: Friday October 1
Venue: Kings Theatre, Bath Street, Glasgow

Cost: £12 for a Front Stalls seat

Following on from its sensational debut sell-out tour in 2007 and due to phenomenal public demand, Sunshine on Leith makes a very welcome return to the stage this autumn in this spectacular production from Dundee Rep.

Follow the highs and lows of Ally and his friend Davy as they return home to Leith from the army. Families, friendships and life are not all plain sailing in this funny and moving story about love and life.

Billy Boyd (The Lord of the Rings, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) stars alongside an incredibly talented company of over 20 in this critically acclaimed production, brought to life by playwright Stephen Greenhorn (Dr Who, River City) and Artistic Director of Dundee Rep James Brining (A Christmas Carol, Romeo & Juliet).

The Proclaimers have had huge success across the globe with hits such as I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), I’m on My Way and Letter From America, Which such stunning songs this energetic piece of musical theatre is loved by audiences and critics alike. This is set to be the musical event of the season so whatever you do, don’t miss it.

To book a place on the evening, please complete a Social Events Booking form (available from the Downloads page of this website) and return it to Jenny Kane along with a cheque for £12 per seat. Cheques should, as always, be payable to "Ramblers Association, Bearsden and Milngavie Group".

Monday October 18 - Last date to book places at the "60th, 70th & 80th Birthday Bash" (November 13)

Saturday October 23 - Fun Evening of Team Games and Quizzes

Venue: Fraser Centre, Milngavie
Time: 7pm (please be prompt)
Cost: £5

Judy and Graham Rudd are again looking forward to hosting an evening of team quizzes and games, which promises to be light hearted and fun.

Sandwiches and nibbles will be provided, but NOT wine – so please bring with you what you wish to drink during the evening.

As last year, the teams will be selected on the night.

Please send your booking form and cheque to Jenny Kane by 8th October 2010.

To avoid disappointment please book early as there are only 48 tickets available and these will only be offered to members.

Friday November 5 - Annual General Meeting

Venue: Fraser of Allander Centre, Milngavie Town Centre
Time: 19:00 for 19:30

The AGM will be followed by Talk and Presentation by Jon Cossar who we are fortunate to have along with his wife Dora as relatively new members to the Group.

The Talk is entitled “Kilimanjaro - the Ceiling of Africa - a pictorial account of the trials and tribulations in conquering this mountain”.


Saturday November 13 - 60th, 70th & 80th Birthday Bash

Venue: Milngavie Bowling Club
Time: 07:30
Cost: £10 inc. fish/scampi supper & glass of wine.
Other drinks from bar.

A number of members reach 60, 70 or 80 this year. To celebrate those birthdays and any other birthdays this year, we are having a gathering to reminsce, play music of the appropriate musical era and eat fish or scampi suppers!

Bring along your memories, photographs and any suitable music (on CD, cassette, vinyl disc (33 or 45) or even an old 78rpm record!

You can even dress up in the clothes of your chosen decade, if you like!

Wednesday December 1 - Wednesday Short Walk & Christmas Lunch

Venue: Esporta, Strathblane Road, Milngavie

Saturday December 11 - Bishopbriggs - Torrance Circular Walk & Christmas Lunch

The day begins with a Canalside and River Kelvin walk on level paths and a short distance beside a road. No coffee at start.

Changing facilities will be available in the Leisuredrome at the end of the walk.

Meal Venue: Oregano Restaurant Bishopbriggs
Cost: 2 courses £18 (inc gratuity).
