Social Events

One of the features of the Group, much appreciated by members, is the extensive social programme. This runs throughout the year with a different balance of activities during Winter and Summer.

 Curry Night

Thursday, 24th January, 2019
For this popular evening, we are again returning to The Ashoka, in New Kirk Road, Bearsden for a 7pm start. The cost will be around £18 per person including a tip.  Trip to the V & A Museum in Dundee

Monday 18th February, 2019
Architectural Guided Tour at 11.45am, plus self-guided tour of Scottish Design
Gallery. Entry cost will include entry into the Temporary Exhibition – Ocean Liners: Speed and Style. Total cost of the tours is £15. Lunch is available to buy within the V & A or bring a packed lunch. Travel by service bus to Dundee, leaving from Buchanan St bus station at 08.30. Please book own seats for the bus, to guarantee travel. Suggested return bus is at 16.05 from Seagate Bus Station, arr in Glasgow at 17.50. Bring concession card. Booking opens on 7 January.  Moving Image Gallery Workshop at the Scottish Screen Archive,
Kelvinhall, Bunhouse Rd.

Come and learn how to use this wonderful Resource Centre at a workshop, followed by some short videos of local and social history interest. This event starts at 10.30am and will last a total of one hour for the workshop and 30 mins for the video footage. There is no cost; however, we suggest a donation of £3 per person, which you should bring on the day. Please meet just inside the Entrance on Bunhouse Rd, beside the car park at 10.15am.  Rambler-guided Heritage Walk around Glasgow’s West End

Thursday, 25th April, 2019
Meet at Milngavie Station at 9.15 to catch the 9.24 Edinburgh Train to Charing Cross, from where the walk will start. The heritage walk will take us through Woodside, to Kelvingrove Park, the University, then via Ashton Lane to the Botanic Gardens. Walking time is approx 2 to 3 hours and there is no cost.  Advance notice of trip to Rosslyn Chapel

Friday, 10th May,2019
Travel by public transport (or car if wished) to Edinburgh, on to Rosslyn. Cost of entry to Chapel including a talk: Adult £9, Concession £7. Bring a packed lunch or eat in the Chapel Café. The details will be put on Breaking News before the booking opens on 29 March.
